10 gadgets to keep you from passing out in the summer heat

Nerd Approved:
It is so unbelievably hot outside right now. I can't help but feel sleepy and run down all the time. For the most part, I stay indoors most of the day, but if you have to go out and you don't have the luxury of taking a dip in a pool when you get home, these unusual little gadgets can help keep you cool.

Air Conditioned Shirt:
If you work in an penny pinching office where the temperature is kept uncomfortably high in the summer, one solution (short of breaking into that plastic case that covers the thermostat) would be to plug this Air Conditioned Shirt into one of your USB ports. The ports power fans embedded in the fabric that help keep you cool. They also turn you into something of a human hovercraft and make you look as though you've put on an inordinate proportion of back fat. $258  Japan Trend Shop

All-In-1 Chair
It's a portable chair with a built-in cooler compartment under the seat! That means you can enjoy a frosty beverage while simultaneously icing down your butt. On second thoughts, be wary of drinking a beverage cooled down in this manner, especially if the person sitting in the chair laughs for no reason when he hands them out. $59.95  Amazon via Nerd Approved

Bridge multi-jet outdoor shower
Sadly, my master bathroom shower was built by idiots. There's a ton of empty wall space on the right, yet I only get a coffin's worth to actually bathe myself. The plan is to eventually knock that wall out and expand the shower with one of those fancy multi-nozzle deals. That having been said, the next best thing would be to install one of these "Bridge" outdoor showers from the French manufacturer, Douches de Jardins. It features three nozzles and a hot water regulator that can be used to adjust the water to the desired temperature. Of course, putting it in the middle of my backyard might not go over well with the neighbors. Price not available. Douches de Jardins

Air conditioned bed:
I grew up without air conditioning in an area that got really hot in the summers. I remember being in middle school one day where it must have been above 90 degrees inside an epically boring Social Studies class and I only had a few hours sleep because of a terrible case of poison ivy. It wasn't pretty. Needless to say, I would have killed to have oneof these Kuchofuku air conditioned beds the night before. Dual fans at the foot of the bed circulate cool air through the cushion you lay on, which also delivers added support. $562  Japan Trend Shop

Hot Cool desktop fridge
This USB-powered dektop fridge from Japan can cool down a single beverage on your desktop or, with the push of a button, keep your coffee or tea warm with an alternate heating function. So if you like to drink beer at work, it is both the cause and the solution to all of your problems. $37 Thanko via That's Nerdalicious

Fanbrella
The benefits of the Fanbrella are two-fold — it shields you from the sun while providing push-button cooling from a fan mounted underneath the canopy. If you happen to live in Southern climates, something like this could be a real lifesaver as the sun and humidity are absolutely relentless. I wouldn't even mind walking around with one even though it might throw off of a pasty, Uncle Fester-y kind of vibe. $79.95 Hammacher Schlemmer

USB Cooler Cushion
If you thought that wearing an air conditioned shirt was a little extreme, a more discreet way to cool down would be to use this seat cushion. It features USB-powered fans that centralize cooling to your nethers where you need it the most. Plus, this version keeps butt cooling and beverages separate - as it should be. $32 GeekStuff4U via CubicleBot

Dram Sandals
On those hot summer days Reef sandals can provide relief for parched throats thanks to a flask embedded in the heel. If the idea of hot foot liquor doesn't sound appealing, they also have a Fanning model with a bottle opener embedded on the bottom. If you've ever spent time in a public men's restroom, you'll know that you probably don't want to drink anything that came in contact with these sandals. Pricing not available. Necktie Fan
Believe it or not, the necktie fan from Japan has proven popular enough that it is now in its third generation. On the plus side, it features a battery pack that can free you from the USB cables needed for the previous air conditioned shirt and seat cushion. Just don't expect it to free you from ridicule. $35 Thanko via Fashionably Geek

Funston fire pit and ice chest
The Funston fire pit/ice chest from Shift Space Design is a fantastic idea for the summer. Basically, it's a backyard party in a box. On one side, it's an ice chest that you can fill up with cold beverages during the heat of the day. At night, you can turn over the chest and use the other end as a fire pit. The only problem is that even the blazing sun and a fire can't burn a hole in your pocket like the $750 price tag can. Horne via Shift Space Design
